The Trustees of the Friends of the Moot Hall are pleased to announce the appointment of Zoie Miller to the new role of Business Development Manager and Paul Bonnici as the Heritage Manager. Both appointments start on 20.02.2017 in time for the March resumption of weekly tours of the historic building in the centre of Maldon.
These appointments follow the resignation of Julie Miller, who had been manager since 2009, and who has now been co-opted onto the Town Council as Councillor for Maldon West. Zoie Miller (no relation) has worked all over the world in travel, in film production and latterly teaching.
I have lived in Maldon since 2012 and initially moved here to be close to my mother and to raise my daughter. Maldon is a wonderful place to raise a family and is a very welcoming community. Prior to living in Maldon I lived and worked all over the world in various paid and voluntary roles including: a Resort Manager and Tour guide in Crete; Greece; teaching English post hurricane Wilma in Mexico; tour guide on a world heritage site and managing an Eco Resort in Tulum. I have a passion for travel and sports. Whilst living abroad I qualified as a scuba diver in Turkey and Sky Diver in Australia.
Before starting my career, I went to University in both Hull and Toulouse, France. I have two degrees one in French and Film and the other in Film Production and more recently I completed a PGCE teaching Modern Foreign Languages at Secondary level. My principal career for over 18 years has been in Film and Television Production.
My varied roles have given me a diverse and in-depth knowledge of business structure, management and accounting. I started as a PA and Coordinator with Pathé Productions working on French Co-Productions such as The Pianist, this lead into Production Accounting, where I assisted on films ranging from Gosford Park to Wimbledon. The jump to Accountant was made after several years with the BBC. I then went on to working directly for Ridley Scott and restructured his Research and Development platform. Soon after, I was employed by Locksmith Animation, a company financed by Elizabeth Murdoch where I was instrumental in setting up the company, developing the Business Plan, creating the accounts structure and platform for the future.
I am now self-employed and run my business from home and in London. Recently, I have become more involved in local interests and events, fund raising for charity and charity runs. When an opportunity arose as the Business Manager for Moot Hall it seemed the perfect role to combine my skills and interests, I look forward to joining the team.
The Heritage Manager Paul Bonnici, who joined the Moot Hall team in 2014, will be responsible for co-ordinating the popular weekly tours and group visits to the Grade 1 listed building which is possibly one of the earliest secular, decorated brick buildings in the country.
Julie Miller continues as a Trustee of the Friends of the Moot Hall, the Charity that manages the building, “The Trustees of the Moot Hall are really pleased to welcome Zoie Miller as Business Development & Education Manager and congratulate Paul on his promotion to Heritage Manager. We look forward to an exciting future for the Moot Hall as the new management team move us forward with new ideas and fresh eyes. We hope to build on our past success whilst creating a vibrant visitor experience and educational resource and offering a unique wedding venue for couples who hold their special day at the Moot Hall. None of this would be possible without Maldon Town Council, who own the Moot Hall and we extend our thanks to them for their ongoing support”.
