The Friends of the Moot Hall will develop a series of events designed to provide opportunities to share this unique building with local people and visitors. The first of these has been the much acclaimed production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s operetta ‘Trial by Jury’ performed in the authentic setting of the Court Room as part of the Maldon Arts Festival.

A brochure will be produced and distributed through the Tourist Information network and as a mail shot to special interest groups.

Teacher packs will encourage visits by schools as part of their curriculum.

Guided tours are available now on Saturdays, these will be increased and promoted to groups as part of the Maldon discovery trail. There will be a shop offering memorabilia and gifts. The social function of the Moot Hall in Maldon’s history will be presented as period costume sets, included in the Council Chamber, Court Room, the Cells and exercise yard. Royal Charters and other key documents will be displayed with artefacts from the Town’s history.
