Maldon’s 15th Century Moot Hall marks the 200th anniversary of the 1810 Town Charter.

Representatives of the Friends of the Moot Hall – now a Charity with a 25 year lease on the Moot Hall, gathered on the 3rd June to receive a facsimile copy of the 1810 Charter granted by the Crown to Maldon. The 1810 Charter restored the Borough’s status and empowered those townspeople who were eligible to elect a Member of Parliament.

Councillor Michael Bentley - immediate past Mayor of Maldon, used money from the Mayors fund to purchase the copy of the Charter that is now kept in the Essex Record Office.

Councillor Bentley said “This Charter is a very significant document in Maldon’s long history and I am pleased during my year as Mayor to have been instrumental in providing a high quality and legible copy that we can display with the other artefacts in our Moot Hall”
