Ground floor common room, original police station and cells

The Moot Hall became the seat of local Government in the 16th century. The building changed over the years and now has, on the ground floor, a common room and the Mayor's parlour. This large room was once the Maldon Police station with a semi-basement cell and excercise yard.

19th century Court Room

On the first floor, a 19th century Magistrates Court and retiring room is preserved. It was in use until well into the 20th century.

Council Chamber and historical artefacts

On the top floor there is the original Town Council Chamber and robing room for the Mayor and Councillors

Rooftop panaramic views of town, river and countryside

The roof has 360 degree views over the river and the medieval townscape of Maldon and the surrounding countryside. The floors are connected on the east side by a unique brick stairway, with other stairways between floors. The Moot Hall continues to be used by the Town Councillors of Maldon on ceremonial occasions
